February Book Choice

It’s freezing outside and the perfect time to jump into the book The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon. While this book has been around for a few years, I was just introduced to it, and I love it! The Frozen River is based on the true story of Martha Ballard who was a midwife in the late 1700’s. She kept a diary of her time which shows she was present at over 1000 births (delivering over 800 babies). She rode on horseback to many of these births and had grit that is not commonly seen. She saw heartbreaking things. Women went through heartbreaking things….but the resilience is powerful. I loved how throughout the book her diary entries were shared and my favorite ones were when she said “I was at home”. The book shows us that even during the hard or challenging time the one place we can control or make a real difference is within the four walls of our home.

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for joining me on this adventure.

Sincerely,
